Rod vs. Rot vs. Wrought Iron

Spot the ErrorFor the home they were building, Dave and Jenny upgraded to the intricately designed rod iron balusters for their spiral staircase.

While there is such a thing as an iron rod—and maybe even rotting iron—in the “staircase” sentence above the appropriate term is wrought iron. Wrought is a Middle English term for worked. Wrought iron literally means worked iron.
